When Matt was going to be deployed I was concerned about how Kylee and Brayden would handle it. I asked at their school about any programs for the children of deployed parents. I was told there was nothing, but that they could meet periodically with the school counselor to see how their are doing.
However, soon after Matt left they started a program at school called "Mail Call". All the children of deployed parents get together every couple of months to make cards to send to their parents. Brayden and Kylee were so excited to be a part of the program. It was a great way to see who else in the school had deployed parents and to build friendships. They provided refreshments and they got to eat lunch together.
The last mail call of the year the parents were invited. The children colored chalk pictures in the courtyard.
