Enchanted Rock

We have been wanting to visit Enchanted Rock, a state natural area near Fredricksburg, for several years but have never gotten around to it.  We looked into camping there over spring break, but evidently the campsites get booked many months in advance during that week.  We knew if we didn't get out, we would waste away the break, so we headed up for a day of hiking.  Julia was up coughing during the night, so we left a little later than planned to let her give some extra sleep.  When we got to the park there was a long line of cars to get in and we were worried it might fill up before we got through the gate.  After more than half an hour we did get inside the park.
It was a windy day, but the sun made it fairly comfortable.  We hiked nearly a mile to the top of the rock, explored some caves, and enjoyed the views.  After the hike we had a picnic at the base of the rock.

This brings back so many good memories! Our family used to go camping near Fredricksburg at Perdenales Falls over spring break, and we'd always head over to Enchanted Rock for a hike.

Many years later after I was married and my parents lived in San Antonio, I took my husband to Enchanted Rock so we could hike it together.

It's a great place. Love the photos!
