The last week before school we tried to enjoy each day and do a staycation in San Antonio. Matt took the week off so that we could spend time together.
We decided that after many years of living in San Antonio we were overdue for a tubing trip down the Guadalupe River. It is a popular San Antonio activity that we had heard of many people enjoying. We did not want to go during a popular time because the river can get pretty crowded and is more of a party scene on the weekends. We chose to go on Wednesday August 22. It takes about an hour to get there from our house, so we got up early and arrived right before it opened at 10 am. We were the first ones on the river. Being a drought year the water level was not very high. The water ended up being a lot colder than we expected and it took us a little while to get in and comfortable with the water.
Brayden and Kylee went tied together, Julia and I were tied together, and Matt was with Blake and the cooler. It was a horseshoe route and took us about 3 hours to get through. The first part was really slow and we had to paddle ourselves to get moving. The other half was faster, but also not as deep so we were going over rocks. Matt brought a cooler along filled with snacks.
We took a break in the middle to stop and eat snacks. The kids also showed some great talent and ate and drank while floating on the river.
The tubes were a little pricey, but it was pretty convenient to have the rental people drive us back to the car. It was a lot of fun, and definitely something we want to do again.
