Kuentz camp

Julia chose the class Dippin into Dips.
The first day they decorated an apron and their recipe folder.  Each day after that they mad a dip each day and they got to sample them and bring some home.  She made a fruit dip that they had with strawberries and grapes, then a confetti dip and ate it with animal crackers, a caramel dip they ate with apples, and a cookie dough dip with graham crackers.   Her favorite were the caramel apple dip and the confetti dip.

Blake chose the Games from the Past
He said they separated into groups and did the same thing.  The first day they talked about tops, they also did marbles, dominos, and tic tac toe.  They showed a video on how to play marbles.  They spent their whole time playing.  Blake was sick on one of the days and missed when they did yoyo's.  He was able to get one later.

He was happy he chose that one and said it was fine.  He came home with the games he did.

We went with the Herrera's on Natalia and Blake's birthday to Freddy's to celebrate. 

May 4th had recently started to be Star Wars day because of the phrase "May the Force be with you".  In 2015 a new Star Wars movie was coming out and they hype of Star Wars day "May the fourth be with you" was really popular.  Matt thought a cake with that theme would be perfect for Blake's birthday.  

Blake's Birthday Party was on May 16th.  We didn't have a lot of time from when we decided to do it to when we had the party.  We didn't give people a lot of notice and we even invited Caleb Swinyard that morning when the kids had their piano recital.  Luckily the kids were very excited about the theme and helped with the preparations.  They were coming up with ideas on white can of food to do.  With a minecraft theme there was a lot of neat ideas for food.  We also used minecraft toys that we had to help decorate. 

For the activities they built minecraft blocks out of paper.  It was a kit we got Blake to use for his party.  They were a little harder for the kids to put together than we thought they would be.  The older ones had to help a lot.  They also made minecraft objects with pearler beads.  That ended up being a little tricky because there was only one iron to melt them together.  They tried to play outside with creeper balloons, but it was a little windy and they were blowing away.

Missing UT Sweatshirts

Brayden went to school without his sweatshirt.  He was freaking out and didn't want to go to school. It was the only day during the school year he had gone without it.  He wears it in all kinds of weather.
He was asking if he could not go to school, or go back home to get it.

He let me know the reaction of his friends.  When he walked into Art his friend Alfonso said there is something different about you, and then said, "You forgot your jacket."
Alfonso asked Dominic if he knew what was different about Brayden.  He said a new haircut?  After a while he figured out and said, Oh he doesn't have his jacket.

Mason saw him in the hallway and said I don't know you anymore.  Where is your jacket?  In history Koi said, "Caldwell where is your jacket?"

Bike rodeo

Originally the bike rodeo was set for the end of February, but the weather was not good so they had to reschedule for the end of April.  That was great for Blake because he needed to practice riding his bike without training wheels. We had been meaning to take him to practice his bike, but we kept putting it off.  By the time we finally took him down to the church so he could learn to ride without training wheels he already knew how.  He had been practicing on his own in our driveway.

Julia loves riding her bike on our street with Adia.  She has recently gotten a bigger bike which is tricky for the bike rodeo.  One of the elements they test is going in and out of cones.  The littler bikes have an advantage because it is harder to get the bigger wheels in between the short distance of the cones.  Notice Julia's googley eyes on her hand while she rode her bike.

Asher's First Haircut and Gables

We combined our Family Home Evening treat time with Asher's first haircut.  We were nervous for his first haircut because we didn't know which he would go, the Brayden super difficult route, or the Blake pretty easy going route.  He ended up doing great.  He just sat there liking a lolly pop as he got his haircut.  They always so grown up after that first haircut.

After the haircut, we went next door to Gable's to have sliders.  They have yummy cookies that you put a scoop of ice cream in the middle to make a slidder. They are a perfect combination and all the kids like them.  Asher just had a cookie.

Blake's Reading Logs

Kuentz Elementary has a reading program done through the library.  Every child is supposed to fill out a total of 10 reading logs to be able to participate in an end of year reading celebration. The required number of reading minutes varies depending on the student's grade.  Blake was supposed to read 10 minutes a night with a total of 200 minutes for each reading log.

The weekend before they were due the following Thursday he was in the middle of the 8th log and we didn't get any reading in that weekend.  I told him sorry that he wouldn't be able to go to the reading party.  He asked how much he had left to read.  I told him he had 2 full logs and some of 8.  He said he could do it.  He had to do 500 minutes, or over 8 hours and had to turn it in on Thursday.  Working before and after school Monday he knocked out a whole log in a single day.  He was fried at the end of the day and had bloodshot eyes.  He did most of the second reading log on Tuesday, but ended up burned out.  He said he didn't want to finish up and that he didn't care about going to the celebration.  I encouraged him that he didn't have much left and he could do it.  He wrapped it up on the last night.

I was really impressed that he was able to finish it.  He was pretty worn out from his reading marathon.  

Matt's Big 40

Matt had his office decorated for his Birthday from his coworkers.  They also brought cake.  

One of Matts favorite things to do is eat outside.  So, for his birthday we had a dinner of Rudys in the backyard.  Kylee made Matt's cake and did something that was from his childhood, Pac Man game.  It turned out great.  We decorated with a black theme since he was turning 40. 

Julia was super excited to give Matt the cane.  She thought it was so fun to show that he is getting old.  Matt did a good job at acting the part.  (notice googley eyes on Julia's fingers)
